.drivingdotca’s David Booth: “Cadillac Canada’s latest new-car-buying innovation is the most dramatic thing to happen to automotive sales in years—and the most disruptive”:
I have seen the death of a salesman. Now, the movie I saw — actually a short video — wasn’t as poignant as Arthur Miller’s original play. Neither was it as well-acted as Kirk Browning’s 2000 remake — Brian Dennehy won Golden Globe and Screen Actor Guild awards as well as being nominated for an Emmy for his brilliant portrayal of Willy Loman. It was, however, ruthless in portraying how, in not so many years, the auto salesperson as we’ve come to know him or her may well be a thing of the past.
“Nothing new there,” you’re thinking. “Sales videos are a dime a dozen.” And you’d be absolutely right, only this wasn’t a video. It was live. As in, you can now — as of March 21st — log into Cadillac.ca, point your mouse at the “Live” button and be connected to an “Agent” , who will give you exactly the same walk-around, answer the same questions and point out the same features as they might were you actually in a Cadillac dealership.

These digital salespeople are not licensed to sell you a car. So, while they can talk to you about double overhead camshafts and the wonders of Cadillac’s latest rear-view camera mirror, they can’t discuss pricing or financing. If you want to haggle or test-drive a Caddy, you still have to go to dealership.
