A passionate Ukrainian soldier hopes the skills he's learning from Canadian troops and their allies will ultimately help make a difference in winning the war with Russia. About 100 Ukrainian soldiers are being trained at a secret location in southwestern Poland. Canadian military arranged for The Canadian Press to visit the camp.

There are a variety of courses going on. One involves detecting mines first using a metal detector then lying prone and digging carefully into the dirt.Every 15 minutes or so, there's a loud bang."We can't organize such training in Ukraine because our position is always attacked by rockets and it's a big problem. But here we're feeling safe and can train, so it's amazing," says a 28-year-old Ukrainian engineer.

Greek is a drone operator. Like many Ukrainian soldiers, he expresses extreme pride in the efforts of his country."I haven't been fighting yet, but I'm back to Ukraine at the end of June and I have a task already," he says.Capt. Mark Schwarz, the Canadian troop commander of the engineer training element, says the work is rewarding, because the Ukrainian soldiers really want to learn.
