OPINION: For the foreseeable future, Ohio Republicans’ ticket of elected statewide executive officers, starting with Gov. Mike DeWine, is sitting pretty.
Though there are some potholes in the pavement, Ohio Republicans appear to be on the road to significant statewide victories 65 days from now in November’s statewide general election, unless something radical happens — such as more indictments in the House Bill 6-FirstEnergy scandal.
True, the U.S. Senate contest between Youngstown-area Democrat Tim Ryan and Middletown native J.D. Vance remains a horse race — more on that contest down the road, as November’s Election Day nears. The Ryan-Vance contest has drawn national attention.isn’t exactly auspicious for the party. Trash talk at the country club is so regrettable.
Also seeking re-election to the state Supreme Court is Republican Justice Patrick Fischer, challenged by Democratic Judge Terri Jamison, of the 10th Ohio District Court of Appeals, which is based in Columbus. As goes the governorship, so likely will go the down-ticket statewide executive offices — attorney general, auditor of state, secretary of state and treasurer of state. Few voters can name the Republican incumbents in those officers; even fewer voters can name the Democratic challengers seeking to pry those statewide offices from the GOP.
Chelsea Clark, a Democrat who is a City Council member in suburban Cincinnati’s Forest Park, is challenging Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose.
