Morocco goalkeeper and World Cup star Yassine Bounou was once asked to play for Canada. Bounou was born in Montreal and holds dual nationality. He’s helped carry Morocco to the World Cup quarterfinals.

In a different life, Bounou could have been playing for Canada. Born in Montreal, Que., Bounou was asked to play for the Canadian national team earlier in his career. “Yes, I was indeed contacted by Benito Floro when he was coach . I had not yet played an international match with the Atlas Lions back then,” Bounou explained.
“I am originally from Morocco and I grew up there. I always dreamed of playing for the Atlas Lions,” he said.
