The country music star packed AT&T Stadium for the first of two concerts in North Texas.

The chart-topping country star from Tennessee played the first of two sold-out shows at AT&T Stadium Thursday night in Arlington. Nate Smith and Jelly Roll opened for Wallen, 31, who came on a little after 9 p.m. and played a headlining set that lasted nearly two hours. For Melissa and Kate Rouswell and Lisa and Brooke Smith, the evening was something they said they’ve been looking forward to for over a year. The group of four came all the way from The Woodlands, a town near Houston.

His performance of “Up Down” was especially bombastic, with flames shooting up around the stage and behind some of the pit area. At one point in the performance, there appeared to be what sounded like fireworks.Wallen was an energetic performer, using all of his big stage and moving side to side, making sure to give the whole arena love while he sang. The platform, which extended out toward the crowd like a fashion runway, gave him plenty of real estate to move around and break into a sweat.

That was the first of three location changes during the show. Later, he moved to a stage in the back of the arena where he played a few more slow songs. He did his version of Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up” and later played “Sand In My Boots” as he played piano on an elevated platform. After that number, he moved back to the main stage and played his last few songs, closing with “Whiskey Glasses,” his first No. 1 single on the Billboard country chart. He hit a big finale and some fans started making their way out of the stadium, but then Wallen and the band came back out dressed in Dallas Cowboys jerseys.
