DONKIN, N.S. — While a provincial work-stop order remains in place for Donkin Mine, the Kameron Collieries ULC-owned coal mine sits idle, losing cash daily and has had to lay off more employees.
The Cape Breton Post left two phone messages with Kameron Collieries for comment but neither were returned by publication time. CBRM Deputy Mayor James Edwards:"If I had a fear at all through this whole procedure is that Kameron Coal might say, ‘Look, we’re through playing politics; somebody else can do this ... we’re outta here.'" Edwards said that Corkum and his team eventually entered the mine in late October to go through their review.
