President Donald Trump and congressional leaders have pitched a number of proposals they argue are essential to a new economic stimulus plan to combat the effects of the coronavirus.
Unemployment rate:
Democrats have said they want to move quickly on what they’ve called a second installment to the historic CARES Act, the $2 trillion package passed in March that sent stimulus checks to Americans, boosted unemployment benefits and created a loan program for small businesses. Republicans are touting liability protections for businesses and have also suggested a pause on additional legislation.

White House spokesman Judd Deere stressed last week that"we are going to ensure that we take care of all Americans so that we emerge from this challenge stronger and with a growing economy, which is why the White House is focused on pro-growth, middle class tax and regulatory relief."
