General manager Cam Russell said the team has narrowed its list of applicants down from dozens of names to a handful of candidates and the team is now entering the final phases of the process. The team has conducted an expansive search across North America to get to this point so Russell cautioned there's no sense in racing through the last steps, but it also feels like it could wrap up in the blink of an eye.
Russell also said he continues to field numerous trade calls and sounded more certain than ever he will have deals to announce at next weekend's draft. The Mooseheads' window to contend in 2024-25 shrunk significantly with the graduation of several core veterans from last year's team so the time seems right to unload some older players as part of a retool.
Otherwise, fans will have to wait until October to get their first in-person look at their team. The QMJHL released the 2024-25 schedule this week and the Mooseheads open with five straight road games, starting on Sept. 20 against the Charlottetown Islanders. Their home opener is on Oct. 4 against the Quebec Remparts. The delay is due to facility unavailability."I actually like starting on the road," Russell said.
