The first poster for the Disney+/Marvel series Moon Knight shows off Marc Spector's comics-accurate crescent weapon. Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, and May Calamawy in the first-ever live-action adaptation of the Marvel Comics character. The show is written by Jeremy Slater, who also serves as showrunner, with episodes directed by Mohamed Diab, and Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead.
Moon Knight was created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin in the pages of Werewolf by Night in 1975 and has gone through several ongoing and limited series books ever since. The character's real name is Marc Spector, a former CIA mercenary who is mortally wounded in a fight with his nemesis, Raoul Bushman. Left in an unearthed tomb in form of a statue of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, Spector is miraculously healed and given abilities that connect with the phases of the moon.
Isaac is no stranger to taking on notable roles, as he starred as Poe Dameron in the most recent Star Wars trilogy and played Duke Leto Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's Dune. The actor is also gearing up to play the iconic Solid Snake in director Jordan Vogt-Roberts' adaptation of the popular video gam,e Metal Gear Solid. He'll also be taking on a different kind of iconic role in Barry Levinson's Francis and the Godfather, playing the legendary director Francis Ford Coppola.
Moon Knight is an interesting character for Marvel to be adapting, as he's a very complex and violent comic-book persona, often likened to as Batman with dissociative identity disorder. However, Marc Spector doesn't have as tragic of a past as Bruce Wayne, but he does carry a number of sins from that time frame that make him a unique character to bring into the MCU fold.
