A new behind-the-scenes photo from Moon Knight reveals a glimpse at Taweret's massive sculpted head. Moon Knight is the latest Marvel series streaming on Disney+ and it stars Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke. The series chronicles the complex, interconnected relationships between mercenary Marc Spector, museum gift shop employee Steven Grant, and the Egyptian god Khonshu as they crusade to stop Hawke's Arthur Harrow from resurrecting the Egyptian goddess, Ammit.
In Moon Knight's fourth episode, audiences meet Taweret, the Egyptian goddess of fertility and rejuvenation. The history of Taweret dates back to around 3000 BC, and she is highly revered as being the protector of both women and families. The Egyptian goddess is often portrayed with a hippopotamus head, arms and paws of a lion, and legs and tail of a crocodile. And although Taweret is ingrained in Egyptian culture, this is the character's first appearance in the MCU.
Marvel's Moon Knight has been an intense psychological thrill ride from the opening sequence, weaving twists and turns in the least expected places. As soon as audiences believe they grasp the storyline, a new twist in the plot sends them down another rabbit hole. The addition of Taweret adds another exciting layer to the story. As she is the goddess of rejuvenation, Marc will likely count on her in some capacity in his mission to stop Harrow.
