CLEVELAND — Fans in Boston saw Mookie Betts at his best. This weekend, they’re going to see he hasn’t changed all that much.
After a 72-minute delay, play resumed and the game ended 12 minutes later – just about 21 hours after the first pitch Wednesday. “Nah. They’ve seen enough. These couple games won’t mean anything,” said Betts who won the American League MVP award in 2018, leading the Red Sox to a World Series win over the Dodgers. “But I want to continue to play well just for me, to show myself, to be consistent – like I’ve always been saying for the last three or four years. I just want to continue to do that. But if I play well, cool. If not, that’s cool too. As long as we win. That’s the No. 1 thing.
After Freddie Freeman singled , Will Smith drove Betts in with a sacrifice fly. Max Muncy doubled to left and Kiké Hernandez drove in two with a double.
