ICYMI: Monument recognizing Ukrainian internment during First World War unveiled in Calgary yyc

He wants internment to be incorporated into school curriculums across the country.

The new monument details the history of Ukrainian internment during the First World War, and contains quotes from internees and photos from the camps. The information is presented in English, French and Ukrainian. Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek spoke at the event, calling Ukrainian internment a “shameful point in history.” She said it’s especially vital now to recognize the historic wrongs in the face of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
