Plans have been released for a new Montreal waterfront neighbourhood that honours the past and future
Plans have been released to transform the area surrounding Montreal’s former Molson Brewery – from the Old Port to the Jacques Cartier Bridge – into a mixed-use neighbourhood that combines life, work and play. With its heritage buildings and cobbled streets, Montreal’s picturesque Old Port is destined to become the gateway to a new waterfront neighbourhood.
Partners MONTONI, a Montreal-based real estate developer dedicated to sustainable solutions, and Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ, a real estate investment group promoting economic growth in Quebec through socially responsible projects, promise to honour the heritage of the landmark by preserving and restoring its original features.
Planning for the neighbourhood’s vista was precise to create appealing views for visitors, retailers and residents.
“The strip along de la Commune Street is being conceived to host commercial spaces that could spill out into a row of interconnected courtyards,” says Benoit Lagacé, architect and director of strategy and urban design at Sid Lee Architecture, the firm behind the design. “We want these to be warm and welcoming paved spaces with terraces and fountains.
