Commuters taking the metro at the Place-des-Arts station tomorrow will hear the iconic three-note tone that plays daily transformed by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

Commuters taking the metro at the Place-des-Arts station on Tuesday will hear an iconic version of the three-note tone that plays daily. The Montreal Symphony Orchestra will transform the notes into a symphonic arrangement to celebrate the Montreal transit authority ’s 60th anniversary.

“Symphonic music has a visceral ability to take your breath away and resonate, even with the most novice listeners,” said OSM president and CEO Mélanie La Couture. “By bringing the work of our musicians to life through a sound as iconic as the metro chime, we want to offer commuters at Place-des-Arts station a taste of the astonishing experience that awaits them at Maison symphonique this season.

” The initiative is meant to show everyday commuters that the symphony is not just for classic music connoisseurs and perhaps encourage them to swing by the Maison symphonique for a concert this season.

“If hearing three notes in transit can astound passersby, the experience of a full orchestra unleashing its complete energy in concert promises to make a lasting impression,” reads a news release. The OSM was founded in 1934 and is under the direction of Venezuelan conductor Rafael Payare. The OSM puts on more than 100 concerts every year. The next event is Schubert: Singed Herreweghe on Thursday.
