Following Amazon's closure of seven warehouses in Quebec, protesters in Montreal continue to demand a boycott of the company and better severance packages for laid-off workers.

Protesters gathered in downtown Montreal on Saturday, continuing their calls for a boycott of Amazon after the company's decision to close its seven warehouses in Quebec in January. About 50 people, including Félix Trudeau, union president for the Laval, Que., Amazon warehouse that unionized last May, assembled at Montreal’s Phillips Square.

Trudeau, who recently shared the stage with New Democrat MP Charlie Angus in Ottawa, echoed calls for a nationwide boycott and employee demands for better severance. He stressed that several thousand workers have been laid off in an unprecedented move that he believes aims to crush a democratic workers' movement. Trudeau urged various levels of government to cease utilizing Amazon's services.Benoit Dumais, a former Quebec Amazon employee who left the company due to an on-the-job injury, expressed his desire for Quebec's labour minister to meet with laid-off workers to discuss pursuing Amazon for indemnities and services he believes the company is obligated to provide. In February, a Quebec labor group filed a complaint demanding the retailer resume operations and pay each employee over a year's salary in compensation.Amazon has refuted accusations of union-busting, stating that its decision to close the warehouses was driven by a need to provide efficient and cost-effective services to customers
