A survivor and spokesperson for victims in Quebec believes the list can have a positive effect on survivors coping with the aftermath of abuse.
One of them faces multiple allegations and served as a chaplain at Concordia University in the 1990s. The Montreal Gazette is not naming him because it has not verified the allegations against him.
Loyola High School, for its part, said it was warned by the Jesuits earlier this month that two members of the order who missioned at the school would be named on the list. The second person named on the list from Loyola High School, Father Michael Murray, served as the school’s president from 2010 to 2015. He died in 2020.It said specific details were not shared due to confidentiality reasons, but was told Murray’s case involved “one individual with whom he had a long-term relationship decades ago in another province.”
A spokesperson for the school said it was not aware of the allegations against the men before learning of them from the order. Nor does it have any further information about the nature of the alleged acts, they added. It probed cases brought forward by parishioners, civil authorities or other clergy, regardless of whether criminal charges were laid or civil action was brought against the priest in question.Article content
