“There are concerns from everybody everywhere.” Charlie Montoyo says his Blue Jays have some apprehension about their upcoming series against the Phillies. ShiDavidi has the details.
The Marlins outbreak has shaken the foundations of baseball’s increasingly criticized plan to have teams travel the country while playing out of their home ballparks, as opposed to creating a bubble like the NBA or hub sites like the NHL.
MLB said that in the more than 6,400 tests conducted since last Friday, no team other than the Marlins has returned a positive result. The plight of the Phillies offers an important litmus test on how easily the virus can be transmitted on the field between clubs, and the Blue Jays will potentially become part of that experiment Friday.
“You’ve got to keep your distance,” Montoyo said. “Of course when someone gets to first base they’re going to be pretty close … but we’re going to try to be safe and try to stay away, like we have, from the other players. And the other players are trying to stay away from us. Everybody is trying to stay away from everybody. It’s working for us, so far anyways.”
