\u0027We don’t want Bobcaygeon to be known as the town that was so tragically affected by the pandemic. Instead, know us as the village with heart\u0027

As the pandemic grew, displacing any usual routines, the absence of the church bells — which are actually four large speakers housed in the church’s bell tower — added another twist to days that had already grown long and strange.

“What they haven’t revealed is that there are 20 other residents and eight staff at the nursing home that have symptoms, but have not been tested,” he wrote at the time. “This additional 28 people undoubtedly are further cases of COVID19. This means that there could be hundreds of cases in the community that have gone undetected.

A sign of support is shown in the parking lot at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Bobcaygeon, Ont., on March 30, 2020.Laurie Dillon-Schalk, who has a farm near Bobcaygeon, contacted Seymour-Fagan and connected the town to Conquer COVID-19, a group of volunteers who were hosting fundraising drives to obtain personal protective equipment . Dillon-Schalk secured a donation for Bobcaygeon and thousands of pieces of PPE — masks, gloves, hazmat suits — were distributed locally and to surrounding communities.

“We want Bobcaygeon to be the first and the leader. But ultimately we want to do this entirely across Canada and possibly around the world,” says Terry Stuart, the organization’s co-founder.
