The Republican governor signed legislation into law Wednesday, saying the ban is aimed at protecting citizens from foreign influence since TikTok is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance. “To protect Montanans’ personal and private data from the Chinese Communist Party, I have banned TikTok in Montana,”It follows efforts in Congress, including a bipartisan bill in the Senate targeting TikTok and other apps from foreign adversaries. ButAlexandria Ocasio-CortezTikTok says the law violates the First Amendment, as the company continues to assess its next legal steps.
