The co-founders of Moms for Liberty denounced the actions of an Indiana chapter on Thursday after a quote from Adolf Hitler was featured in its newsletter and posted on Facebook.
The Hamilton County chapter of Moms for Liberty published its first newsletter Wednesday called The Parent Brigade. Just below the masthead was a quote Hitler used at a Nazi rally in 1935:"He alone, who OWNS the youth, GAINS the future."The Hamilton County chapter sought to clarify its actions by putting the quote in"context" Wednesday night only to have it backfire.
"The quote from a horrific leader should put parents on alert," the update said."If the government has control over our children today, they control our country's future. We The People must be vigilant and protect children from an overreaching government.""They should not have quoted Hitler. Period," MFL co-founders Tina Descovich and Tiffany Justice told the Washington Examiner in an email.
The controversy comes as Moms for Liberty gears up for its second annual summit in Philadelphia next weekend where hundreds of like-minded people will meet, attend workshops, and hear pitches from presidential candidates vying for their votes. Former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy are all slated to speak.MFL has successfully harnessed its political power to push for change in education and government.
Critics claim the organization is a well-funded hate group. The Southern Poverty Law Center labeled MFL"extremist" in its 2022 Year in Hate & Extremism report and argues MFL advances an"anti-student" inclusion agenda. The SPLC has likened the organization to parent groups that tried to re-segregate public schools during the civil rights movement.
