JOHOR BARU: Any amendments to Umno's constitution are meant to improve the party, said Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan
The Umno deputy president said that the amendments are not intended to oust any leaders or members of the party.
Mohamad added that amendments to the constitution are to make Umno more open and make it easier for anyone who wants to be a member to join the party. "The proposed amendments are made for the betterment of the party, not to get rid of anyone as claimed by certain quarters," he said. He also said that the Registrar of Societies already has a rule that prohibits those who are found to have committed wrongdoings to contest or hold any position. He said this when met by reporters after officiating the Johor Baru division's general assembly on Saturday .
Mohamad was commenting on reports in the media that the current quest for proposals to amend the party constitution is an attempt by him and other Umno leaders to ensure that Ahmad Zahid and Datuk Seri Najib Razak are unable to retain their positions in the party.
