Editor Eddie Hamilton recalls the early four-hour cut of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, revealing why it wasn’t a smooth watch.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One editor reveals that an early cut of the movie was about four hours long and not a very streamlined viewing experience. Directed by now-franchise veteran Christopher McQuarrie, the latest installment in the long-running action franchise sees Tom Cruise return as superspy Ethan Hunt to face off against a rogue AI and its human emissary.
“The first time we watched it, it was nearly four hours long and had no music. It was a tough watch because it was the first time Chris and I had ever watched the movie from beginning to end. Not having any score was a very strange experience. It’s almost a silent movie because there were no sound effects either. We started going through the movie and really drilling down on every moment.”
