Mission Hills hangs on late, tops Rosary in SoCal Regionals

Grizzlies beat 13th-seeded Fullerton Rosary Academy from tough Trinity League in SoCal Regional Division I girls basketball playoffs

Mission Hills High looked like it was breezing to a victory in the first round of the SoCal Regional Division I girls basketball playoffs.

Rosary closed the deficit to just two points before the Grizzlies managed to score just enough for a 57-54 victory Tuesday night at home.“There are no breaks in the Open Division or Division I,” Mission Hills coach Chris Kroesch said. “Rosary is not a 13th seed.“They’re in the Trinity League, so you know they’re good every single year.”

The Royals never led in the second half, but they sure forced the Grizzlies — who were eliminated from the San Diego Section Open Division playoffs by eventual champion La Jolla Country Day last week — to regain their composure in the final quarter. That offense was enough to keep the Royals, who won state titles in 2017 and 2019 , from winning a 10th straight game.
