Minnesota Frost goaltender Maddie Rooney made 24 saves, including three in the shootout, as the Frost defeated the Toronto Sceptres 4-3 on Tuesday night. Claire Thompson scored two goals and added an assist on her 27th birthday to lead the Frost. Britta Curl-Salemme and Thompson scored in the shootout for Minnesota (5-4-2-4), while Toronto (4-0-3-6) scored just once. The Frost have a league-leading 25 points but have played four more games than the second-place Montreal Victoire (23).
Toronto has 14 points and moved into a tie for last with the Boston Fleet. The game was back and forth throughout, with both teams trading goals. Michell Cava gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal less than four minutes into the game, but Toronto answered with a goal by Sarah Nurse just over six minutes later. Thompson put Minnesota back in front with a wrist shot from the point in the second period, but Toronto tied the game again with a goal by Jesse Compher in the third. Thompson scored her second goal of the game to put Minnesota back in front, but Renata Fast tied the game again with a power-play goal with 8:05 left in regulation.The game went to a shootout where Thompson and Curl-Salemme scored for Minnesota, while Nurse scored for Toronto. Minnesota plays the first of four consecutive road games on Thursday at Ottawa. Toronto hits the road to play Montreal on Thursday.
