A group of millennials went viral after discovering their temporary tattoos were much more permanent than expected, lasting until January 2025.

A group of millennials went viral on TikTok after discovering that the temporary tattoos they applied the night before wouldn't come off until January 2025. The video, which garnered over 5.1 million views since its December 9 upload, features the friends' disappointed faces alongside their lasting ink.

The tattoos range from strange symbols on their foreheads to barbwire on their necks and arms, with some opting for more innocent choices like a dolphin on the side of the face or the WWF bear below one of their eyes. One friend, a man with glasses sporting a forehead triangle, gained particular attention for his violent attempts to remove the tattoo. These millennials' unfortunate experience highlights the diverse range of temporary tattoos available, with durations spanning from 3 days to 15 months. The type in their case, decal images attached to a removable sheet, are applied by simply wetting and pressing them onto the skin's surface. These tattoos, once popular as promotional items on children's snacks, can last for extended periods. They are also available in other forms, such as henna, a paste-like dye made from powder extracted from the henna plant, applied without needles using brushes. The group sought help from Valentina Danyau, a painter, tattoo artist, and owner of Sandia Ink in Santiago, Chile. Initially, Danyau believed the tattoos were the result of cutting-edge technology in temporary body art, explaining that new inks can last for long durations but require injection into the dermis, the second skin layer. However, she ultimately concluded that the group's case involved a type of biodegradable ink that breaks down over time and is naturally eliminated by the body as it sheds skin
