Developers in Mill Bay, BC, are planning a new commercial centre on the site of the former Pioneer Square mall, which was destroyed by a fire in May 2022. The project, called Stonebridge, will feature a full-service commercial centre with a grocery store, pharmacy, retail shops, restaurants, daycare, and an integrated health centre. The developers hope to start construction in the next four months, with completion expected in early 2026.
Developers in Mill Bay say new family doctors, retail, restaurants and more are eyed for a long-planned commercial centre at the site that housed Pioneer Square mall.
“The center will include a grocer, pharmacy, retail, restaurants, daycare, and an integrated health center. The health center will include physio, massage therapy, optical, hearing and two to three new family doctors,” added Hopkins.“Our project team has been working with primary tenants and our project architects are preparing Development Permit drawings that will go to CVRD in the next few months, hopefully,” said Hopkins.
The project, called Stonebridge includes both north and south phases and is also envisioned to bring more housing to the area, including a new assisted living seniors building that would be adjacent the commercial centre, according to Limona.Hopkins is hopeful the seniors facility will come to fruition, as there is a “real need” for such housing options “in the Mill Bay, Shawnigan and Cobble hill areas.”As for the commercial centre, he says they planned to start construction last fall.
