The final week of August will begin with sunshine and above seasonal temperatures in southern Alberta, but this warmth will be short-lived.

An intense low pressure system originating from the north and extending south along the Pacific coast is expected to introduce an infusion of cooler air into southern B.C. and southern Alberta by Tuesday night.

In the mountain parks and foothills mixed precipitation is possible as overnight temperatures sit closer to 0 C. Heavy rain in parts of British Columbia over the weekend has lowered wildfire activity in the southern part of the province, but firefighters say strong winds are creating some tree hazards for crews.Vancouver high school student Cameron Lee and his father Matthew are loading up the car with hockey gear – everything from skates, helmets, shoulder pads and pants – preparing to head to the Yukon to deliver it to a minor hockey league.
