With MLB teams preparing for the start of the 2020 season, Angels star Mike Trout says he still has concerns about returning to play.

Trout expressed concerns with returning to train during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic because his wife, Jessica, is pregnant and expected to give birth in August.said on a Zoom call with members of the media Friday

. “There’s a lot of things on my mind. I’m trying to be the safest and most cautious way to get through the season. It’s going to be tough.’’ Though the 28-year-old says he still wants to play this season, and has been contemplating the decision of whether to do so daily, concerns with the potential risks remain.

“We’re playing it by ear. I think the biggest thing is this is our first child. I’ve got to be there,” Trout said. “If I test positive, I can’t see the baby for 14 days. We would be upset. I’ve got to keep Jess safe. I’ve got to keep the baby safe. … I try to talk to my wife every night about this. I know I’m risking myself. I could meet somebody and get this virus. That’s the last thing I want to do.

Trout did report to the team’s training session at Angel Stadium Friday, participating in base-running drills while wearing a mask, according to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya:
