Beanie Bishop missed time with an injury, and Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin says that could have him on the outs.

Kylee Surike | Special to PennLiveWhen it came time for the Pittsburgh Steelers to see Beanie Bishop return to the field against the Detroit Lions, it did not come against, but their third team. Bishop ran with the Steelers’ second-team defense while Thomas Graham received the starting slot cornerback reps.
Bishop did fine in his reps, and Graham did the same. However, neither player jumped off the screen and solidified their spot in the team’s starting lineup. When asked why Bishop did not see snaps with the first team, head coach Mike Tomlin explained that Bishop missing nearly the entire week of preparation affected his snap count, and"He hadn’t worked a lot, and you got to earn opportunity,” Tomliln said. “Glad that he’s healthy.
Will Bishop make the team? The signs of the Steelers holding him out for his own good and letting him play the next game are good optics. However, it does not mean Bishop will be the starter in the slot. The Steelers have options outside the organization and will scour the market on cut-down day. The Steelers, like Bishop, were elated even to get him as an undrafted free agent, but that does not mean that a rookie who was limited by injury, especially an undrafted free agent, will start Week 1. That seems the likely path the Steelers are heading toward with Bishop.
