Govt plans to have at least one CPR in each region © ANSA
- ROME, SEP 22 - Veneto Governor Luca Zaia and Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala on Friday joined many other heads of local and regional authorities in expressing skepticism about the government's plan to have at least one pre-removal centre for migrants ineligible for asylum in each Italian region. Italy currently has 10 CPRs.
Zaia said it was like trying to"emptying the sea with a bucket" and argued that the EU was"totally absent".Milan's centre-left Mayor Sala echoed those concepts. "I have never said that I am against repatriations when there is a reason, but, if recent history teaches us anything, it is that the number of repatriations that can be made is limited,' he said on the sidelines of a conference on inclusion in schools at the Bicocca University.
