According to a letter sent to the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District community by Superintendent Michael Cardona, a traffic accident occurred at the school that resulted in the student being struck.The name of the student has not been released. The San Marcos Police Department responded to the school “immediately” and is investigating the incident.
The accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. Friday, according to the SMPD. A school-security officer on campus communicated via radio that a car had hit a student in the parking lot.The driver of the car has been identified and no charge is expected. Goodnight Middle School classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day, and students have been moved to San Marcos High School to be reunited with their families. The school district is requesting people who are not families of the students to avoid the San Marcos High School area during the reunification process until dismissal.
“The loss of a student is devastating and we are all grieving together,” Cardona wrote. “I wish I had the right words to say, but I do not. We appreciate your continued prayers and support for the family and the San Marcos CISD community impacted by this tragic incident.”
