Microsoft has announced that it will be ending support for its Android subsystem on Windows 11 in a year's time. This was revealed in a new support document on its website, stating that the Windows Subsystem for Android will no longer be supported starting 5 March 2025.
The company introduced Android apps on its platform back in 2021 through Amazon's Appstore. With this sudden move, Amazon said in a blog post that developers will not be able to submit new apps after 5 March 2024. However, those with existing apps will still be able to submit app updates until the 2025 deadline.As for how users are affected, those who have already installed the Appstore and its Android apps will still continue to have access to them until the cutoff date.
This comes just a day after the company rolled out a feature that enables Windows 11 machines to use Android devices as webcams. The feature was rolled out through its Windows Insider program and supports both phones and tablets running on Android 9.0 or newer.
