Trades unions do not get a fair deal and that is something we have come to expect and are thick skinned about But for our members it is not something they do lightly. They lose pay, they potentially face heavy criticism from the public on picket lines and ostracisation in the media.for job security, a good pay rise and decent conditions at work is different. We have chimed with a public mood for change.

But when 40,000 railway workers decided enough was enough, and that national strike action for the first time since 1989 was needed, the travelling public showed high levels of support.45 per cent of people support the strikers.

On the other hand, they know there is no cost of living crisis for the rich, corporate CEOs and their shareholder friends raking in dividends. Inflation is being driven by a number of factors including inflated profits and international economic shocks. None of this was caused by workers or their wages. In fact, it is the suppression of wages that has helped increase profit margins as people are not paid adequately for the labour they perform, day in day out.
