Las Margaritas Mayor Jorge Luis Escandon Hernandez was not seriously injured during the reported incident, according to authorities.

The local politician did not suffer"major injuries" during the chaos after a number of regional police saved Escandon by bringing the truck to a stop, the BBC reported.confirmed 11 men had been arrested over the Tuesday events in Las Margaritas.The media notice also said that the Mayor was safe and sound, adding that local authorities were seeking to clarify events. It added that the State Prosecutor's Office condemned the acts of violence.

The alleged attack on Mayor Escandon this week is not the first of its kind this year, according to the BBC, which reported that a group of men had damaged his office four months ago while he was away from work. In its media release, the State Attorney General's Office claimed property was also damaged Tuesday in the alleged attack on the politician.

Earlier this year, Tlaxiaco Mayor Alejandro Aparicio was killed just hours after being sworn into office in a shooting that saw three people taken to hospital, CNN reported. Aparicio was pronounced dead at the hospital as a result of internal bleeding from a gunshot wound.
