The Mets continue to add more talent to the roster ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
They acquired Reds outfielder Tyler Naquin and pitcher Phillip Diehl on Thursday night, The Post’s Joel Sherman reported. They sent prospects Jose Acuna and Hector Rodriguez to Cincinnati in return.
Naquin, in his second season with the Reds after spending five with the the Guardians, is slashing .245/.305/.429 with six home runs, 31 RBIs and a .734 OPS. A lefty batter, he thrives against righties, owning an .811 OPS against them this season. He’ll be a free agent after the season. The southpaw Diehl could help fill the void left behind by Drew Smith, who was placed on the IL earlier in the day with a right lat strain.
The Mets made their move ahead of Tuesday’s deadline last week, acquiring slugger Daniel Vogelbach from the Pirates in exchange for promising young reliever Colin Holderman.
