Projects in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties could bring ‘new’ water for 100,000 Southern California households.

His agency said Monday, April 15, that it will spend up to $250 million on a handful of water innovation projects in Southern California. Those projects include an ocean desalination plant in Dana Point and a wastewater purification system in the San Fernando Valley.
Though the projects won’t be financed directly by MWD agency officials said the broader goal is to keep supplying affordable water to local residents and businesses even as climate change reduces or eliminates the region’s traditional supplies. All four of the projects financed by Metropolitan Water could help produce, or reclaim, more local water. They are:
