Redpath “wouldn’t say that one year was more severe than the other,” but the accumulation of events has prompted Metro to consider rebuilding the parks differently in keeping with the regional district’s strategies to “harden” its parks infrastructure as a climate-mitigation measure. However, Redpath said his department is still adding up the costs to completely assess and repair the damage done by this round of storms.Article content
“One of the things we’re doing is really focusing on hardening our system, making it more resilient to these impacts of climate change,” Redpath said. “We’re really, really lucky that we didn’t have any wind to accompany that,” said Donna Powers, director of community relations for the District of West Vancouver. A year ago, king tides arrived with gale-force winds that structurally damaged the Ambleside and Dundarave piers.
