Meta will ban its users from posting news articles to Facebook or Instagram if a proposed California bill passes.
Meta plans to ban users from posting news content on Facebook and Instagram if a proposed California bill passes, the company announced.
“It is disappointing that California lawmakers appear to be prioritizing the best interests of national and international media companies over their own constituents,” the statement says, following a remark that revenue from the bill would primarily benefit “big, out-of-state media companies” instead of local publishers.
“This isn’t a threat, just a decision we will have to make that legislators should know about as they consider this bill,” Stone said in a separate tweet.
