Heavy rain has begun to batter parts of the UK but weather forecasters have warned the worst is yet to come.
Affected areas could see local flooding and disruption to transport, as the heaviest and most persistent downpours are expected to hit southern and eastern England on Monday afternoon. Forecaster Steven Keates said although the rain started to push in overnight we have not experienced anything ‘particularly heavy so far’.A lorry passes through a large puddle on the M20 in Ashford, Kent ‘Probably later this afternoon into this evening and tonight we could see some of the heaviest rain.‘Some places could see a month’s worth of rain in two or three days, and we could see some flooding issues.
One flood alert has been put in place by the Environment Agency on the River Ravensbourne in London, covering the boroughs of Lewisham, Bromley, Greenwich and Croydon.
