In its warning, Met Éireann said there is a 'moderate chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening with a possibility of hail.'
Met Éireann has issued an urgent thunderstorm warning for much of the southern half of the country as horrid conditions take hold.
They also warn that possible impacts include spot flooding in places, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions, particularly for drivers who are warned to exercise extra caution on the roads. They say tonight that "heavy showers in the southeast will clear early" but that "further light showers will spread from the Atlantic over the west of the country, turning largely dry with clear spells in the east. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees, in light west to southwesterly winds with a few mist patches in places too."
"A few isolated light showers will linger overnight [on Wednesday] and there will be a mix of cloud and clear spells, however more persistent rain will edge into the west by morning. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds, freshening by morning.
