U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland is under pressure by Senator J.D. Vance, an Ohio Republican and Donald Trump ally, to investigate Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over the former president's New York City criminal trial.After more than six weeks in the courtroom, a jury is deciding if Trump is guilty of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump has maintained his innocence in all cases and claimed they are all politically motivated. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges in the election interference case and has appealed the ruling in the fraud case, which imposed a $355 million fine and barred him from doing business in New York for three years.Vance also claimed that Merchan 'has done his best to deprive' the former president of 'a fair trial by an impartial jury.
