'Although I think people can and do massively overstate how important Joe Rogan actually is, his popularity in general does speak to a malaise in the tediously over-analysed concept of ‘modern masculinity’.' ✍️ tom_usher_ writes for MetroOpinion

Music was pulled, Rogan issued the now traditional to-camera apology, and it was even brought up in a White House press conference, which neatly summarises how unserious the modern world really is.

A sense of aspirational awe filled me as I listened to Ventura and Rogan: maybe I too could also be a charming yet hench, right wing dude who was free spirited enough to also smoke tonnes of weed. Fast forward a few years, and Rogan has now cycled through what seemed like an endless cornucopia of charmingly insane alpha males and has now resorted to incredibly annoying little nerds, albeit popular ones, like Elon Musk and Jordan Peterson, for guests.Gone is the previously amiable charm of listening to Rogan’s podcast to hear people that, although you didn’t always agree with, could easily fold you in half without breaking a sweat, thus giving them a sort of inherent respect.

Although I think people can and do massively overstate how important Joe Rogan actually is, his popularity in general does speak to a malaise in the tediously over-analysed concept of ‘modern masculinity’.
