“As far as I know today, I do believe that the stop itself was very questionable,” she told Good Morning America. Nichols' mother, RowVaughn Wells, who said her family is “grief-stricken,” warned supporters of the “horrific” nature of the video but pleaded for peaceful protests. Court records showed that all five former officers — Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills Jr., Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith — were taken into custody.
