MEMBERTOU — Two goals each from Alexander Chenhall and Connor MacIntyre helped the Membertou Jr. Miners overpower the Cumberland County Blues 8-4 in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action on Saturday night. Nathaniel Fuller, Liam Burke, Drew Baldwin and Coby McCarron also scored for the Miners , hosting their game at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre.Miners goalie Darian McInnis stopped 27 of 31 shots. Ryan Weitzle made 20 saves in the first 37-and-a-half minutes before backup netminder Aiden MacAlease-Jay came in and made another six saves.

The Miners will next face the Blues on the road with back-to-back games in Springhill Feb. 17-18, both games 7:30 p.m. starts. The Blues were slated to face the Eskasoni Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena. The Eagles had to postpone Saturday’s game hosting the Strait Pirates due to “bad road conditions and poor visibility” from the bitterly cold and snowy weather.
