Conor McGregor even posted evidence to suggest he invented the kick before Anderson Silva
McGregor tweeted: “I was the first to start football punt kicks to the face of standing opponents. This is my debut. I call it the ‘over the bar’ kick,” he said along with a picture of his win over Marcus Brimage in 2013.
Many responded to McGregor insisting that Anderson Silva was the first to do the move when he knocked out Vitor Belfort in 2011. But the Irishman had an answer for that, replying: “Ah Anderson’s was different, his was karate. Mine was good old fashion American football Irish rugby Tom Brady bread.” When someone disagreed again, replying with a picture of Anderson’s knockout, McGregor added: “Textbook karate. Mine was a football volley. Compare the snaps. Anderson kicks a football like that it’s not even clearing 20 yards.”However, he was later discharged when the results came back negative.
