Connor McDavid scored two goals and added an assist as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Minnesota Wild 5-3 on Wednesday, extending their winning streak to seven victories in eight games. Vasily Podkolzin netted the game-winning goal early in the third period, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also had a goal and assist. Zach Hyman brought the Oilers back from a 2-0 deficit with his 15th goal of the season. Calvin Pickard made 31 saves for Edmonton.
Matt Boldy, Marco Rossi, and Ryan Hartman scored for Minnesota, who have lost three of their last four games due to numerous injuries. Filip Gustavsson stopped 31 shots for the Wild. Minnesota opened the scoring with two power-play goals in the first period by Boldy and Rossi, but the Oilers answered back before the end of the period with McDavid's first goal on a power play. The Wild lost forward Marcus Johansson in the second period after he was struck in the face by an elbow from McDavid. No penalty was called on the play. McDavid surpassed Jari Kurri for second place on the Oilers' all-time points list with 1,044 points, trailing only Wayne Gretzky (1,669). With Hyman back to his productive self on the first line, the Oilers are on a roll. Nugent-Hopkins, skating alongside Hyman and McDavid, has scored six goals in his last ten games. The Wild are struggling to keep up with teams due to the absences of several key players, including leading scorer Kirill Kaprizov and defensemen Jared Spurgeon, Jonas Brodin, and Brock Faber. Minnesota has lost three of the four games without Brodin and Faber. Kaprizov missed his 10th consecutive game but has returned to skating
