Krista McCarville, the four-time defending Northern Ontario women's curling champion, pulled off a miraculous victory against Timmins skip Lauren Mann in the quarterfinals. Needing a four-ender to win, McCarville capitalized on a rare mistake by Mann , sending her stones out of scoring position and securing the 9-8 win. This advancement sends her team to Sunday morning's semifinal. The game was a rollercoaster for McCarville's team.
They struggled to make shots and read the ice, falling behind 5-2 at the break. Despite battling back to tie the game 5-5 after eight ends, they gave up three to Mann in the ninth, seemingly putting the game out of reach. However, McCarville's team remained determined. Third Andrea Kelly, who joined the team last year to help them reach a national championship, said they knew they could work hard and have opportunities to score big. When Mann missed her final shot in the tenth, McCarville took advantage, firing a bullet down the sheet and scoring the crucial four points for the victory. The win was a momentum-changer for McCarville, who expressed her desire to represent Northern Ontario at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay. Team McCarville finished the round robin with a 5-1 record, tied for first place. The tiebreaker went to Emma Artichuk, who earned an automatic berth in Sunday afternoon's final. Meanwhile, Trevor Bonot, the defending men's champion, lost to Sault Ste. Marie's Sandy McEwan in the C-side qualifier, ending his run in the tournament.
