After dozens of trail cameras were stolen from a wild horse conservation group, Sundre RCMP has laid charges against a Mayerthorpe man.
Sundre RCMP said on Saturday that another 54 research cameras were reported missing on March 6, 2023. The value of these cameras is estimated to be $12,500. More than 130 cameras have been stolen.
“The last theft was on March 6 of this year, and that’s on the exact one-year anniversary of the theft last March,” said Glover. “They have totally underestimated our resolve.” With assistance from Mayerthorpe RCMP, Sundre officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Mayerthorpe on March 9. Roth is next scheduled to appear in Mayerthorpe Provincial Court on May 11. He has been released from custody on conditions.Glover said RCMP has returned a box of about 50 stolen cameras, so they’ll be cleaning them up and reinstalling them.
