Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall's emotional memoir, 'You've Been Chosen,' is a finalist for an NAACP Image Award.
Her next surprise was learning that her memoir was in rather select company, alongside autobiographies written by former First Lady Michelle Obama, Georgia senator Raphael Warnock, actor Michael K. Williams and actress Jenifer Lewis.on Tuesday, is the outpouring of heartfelt response she continues to receive from readers.
“We all have a story,” she said. “We all have a journey. It’s just our lives. It’s beautiful that people are taking the time to tell me how they are touched.”” as the title because when she began her battle against colon cancer in 2011, her mother, Carolyn, told her that some day she would be able to tell her story and in doing so bless and inspire others.
Two weeks ago an American Airlines Center employee gave Marshall a handwritten letter, explaining why “You’ve Been Chosen” was life-changing, at a time when the employee was having thoughts of giving up. In ‘You’ve Been Chosen,’ she tells how persevering through abuse, racism, personal tragedy and illness helped her become the positive force she is today.
