Mater Dei will close at the end of June, leaving underclassmen in limbo

Eckert tried to keep it as light-hearted as possible since laughs have been hard to come by over the last couple of weeks, and players and coaches laughed during the meeting after some jokes.Mater Dei Prep announced that the school is closing its doors at the end of the academic year “We were told two weeks ago that the school was closing, and the kids took it hard, but thank God we had baseball to fall back on and keep the kids’ minds off of it. You know, it is what it is,” Eckert said. “It’s a hard situation that the kids got left in, and I told them life gives you many curveballs, and the old saying is it’s not what you do, it’s how you react to it and go forward.Eckert spent the last 16 years coaching baseball at Mater Dei, including the last two as head coach.
“It’s kind of bittersweet a little bit because I think the world of coach Eckert and their program,” Pasquale said. “I know for everybody who loses this time of year, it’s devastating. But for them, they’ll never play together again. I really respect what they are going through. It’s gotta be hard. From the coaches, all the way through their youngest players. It’s gotta be a challenge, and I want to offer that support if we can help.
